I had just been married, and 
being in the Navy V-12 program I was imme-
diately sent to boot training camp at Farragut, 
Idaho.  After boot training I was assigned to the 
Hospital Corps of the Navy as a Hospital Ap-
prentice First Class.  While in Farragut, Idaho, 
I contracted scarlet fever, and after returning to 
duty and being transferred to the U.S.N.H. in 
Seattle, Washington, I was diagnosed as hav-
ing rheumatic fever and as part of the medical 
treatment was sent to the Navy Hospital in 
Corona, California.  This was during the winter
