Well it has been over a month since he left and I still have not been able
to pull his two inch file out of my filing cabinet, tape it up and put it into
storage or discard it. That file contains over forty years of correspondence some
of it written with the wrath of hell imbedded in it and some of it very consoling
and complimentary but, all of it is the result of a long friendship that I can’t
believe has come to an end.
Norma has graciously kept me up to date. I want you to know how sorry I am
and please pass my condolence on to your family.
As a non-family member in his large circle of friends I can tell you he was
always concerned with the well being of his children, maybe even to a fault.
My best regards,

He was an admirable person who was both an innovator and
a builder. He will always be regarded as one of the leaders
of American business for the great company he built.

L.S. was a giant, a one-of-a-kind, who lived a life of almost
biblical proportions. He personally changed society in a way that
will rank him as one of the greats of the 20th century.
In a revealing moment you told me once that your dad’s biggest fault
was trusting people too much. I’m sorry that I don’t think that I ever
told you how grateful I was for having worked for U-Haul. Any assets
I have or had were the result of my employment. It should be a
satisfying thought to know that your dad improved the lives of
thousands of people that he may never have known.
Respectfully,
Jack Wallace, Philadelphia, PA
